28 February 2020
The ANC in Parliament makes a clarion call to our people to participate in Parliaments Public hearings on the Amendment of Section 25 of the Constitution, which are currently underway.
The amendment of Section 25 will address the spatial inequalities that persist in our society and redress the injustices of the past. As the ANC led government had resolved at the 54th Conference, expropriation of land without compensation should be among the key mechanisms available to government to give effect to land reform and redistribution.
The ANC further resolved that, in determining the mechanisms of implementation, we must ensure that we do not undermine future investment in the economy, or damage agricultural production and food security. Furthermore, our interventions must not cause harm to other sectors of the economy.
We are committed in our resolve to address South Africa’s skewed patterns of land ownership. It is critical that South Africans, especially the poor, youth, women and persons living with disabilities, have access to land to enable them to actively participate in economic growth.
At these hearings, members of the public will be given an opportunity to make submissions as to how the expropriation of land should take place, before parliaments Ad-hoc committee on the Amendment of section 25 of the constitution.
