7 December 2020
The African National Congress Caucus in Parliament has today, 07th December 2020 learnt with deep shock and sadness of the passing of Dr Pumza Patricia Dyantyi, .MP, who hails from Engcobo in the Chris Hani District Municipality in the Eastern Cape who was recently hospitalized.
Dr Dyantyi, a former MK combatant, served in many government positions previously including as MEC for Health and MEC for Social Development in the Eastern Cape prior to her deployment in the National Assembly after the National General Elections in 2019, where she served as a member of the Portfolio Committee on Health.
Her departure is a great loss to the ANC Parliamentary Caucus at a time when our Nation faces many challenges requiring her expertise, resilience and tenacity as well as experience in the Movement.
Trained in Cuba in medicine and armed with vast training and experience, Dr Dyantyi, on the 11th November 2020 in one of her last assignments, participated in a meeting dealing with National and Provincial Departments of Health and entities Audit Outcomes AGSA Briefing and was instrumental in the work around the National Health Insurance including participating in many sessions regarding the state of readiness by the National Health Department on Covid – 19.
We grieve this deep loss and have been rendered much poorer by her untimely departure.
Dr Pumza Dyantyi departs at a time when we see a resurgence in both the AIDS and Covid – 19 pandemics. In her honour as the ANC Parliamentary Caucus, we will pick up her fallen spear and redouble our efforts, with the same vigour and commitment that she demonstrated in the fight against HIV and AIDS.
Our thoughts and prayers are with Dr Dyantyi’s family during this difficult period in their lives.
Hamba kakuhle Matshaya, Mambathane. Usizimele!
Issued by the Office of the Chief Whip; Hon. Pemmy Majodina
